Music

Roxie Maisel's "A Very Roxie Christmas" is my first ever studio album, fully self-produced, including eight entirely original holiday songs.  It's weird, hilarious, festive, and at times, touching. When I began making this album, I wasn't quite sure how I felt about the holiday.  I was raised Jewish, so I always felt excluded and a little suspicious.  What I discovered in the process of creating these songs is that I actually like Christmas a lot! My connection to ICSA is that I was in an acting class that turned out to be an abusive cult.  The teacher, a close family friend, was very cruel and made me doubt myself as a performer.  I was in her "class" for one year, and it did major damage to my self-esteem. This album was a reclaiming of my creativity and sense of humor.  Her class had transformed me from a carefree comedian to a "serious" actor, so it felt really good to make something silly and unserious!
