Maisel, Roxie

Roxie Maisel is a New York City based performer, writer/producer, and composer. Roxie is a sound designer with a home recording studio, where she creates jingles, film/TV scores, and soundscapes for various clients.  Her specialty is comedy songs.  She is currently studying video editing and hopes to find work as a video editor for network comedy or reality TV. Roxie composed, cowrote, produced, and performed the off-off-Broadway musical "EXODUS 2: The Apocrypha," the journey of biblical magician mimes Flappy and Chappy in their musical exodus from Ancient Egypt. As a performer, she specializes in comic burlesque cabaret, including such acts as "Sex Plumber" and "The World's First Fat Rockette." Roxie has performed in New York at The Duplex, Peoples Improv Theater, Soho Playhouse, Magnet Theater, DROM, The Black Cat, and The Tank; and in Paris, Café Oscar. Roxie is a musical theatre performer and classically-trained opera singer.  Off-Broadway credits include: “Into the Woods” (Rapunzel); “The Belligerent Boozer” (Candy Finnegan).  Regional: "Anything Goes" (Reno Sweeney); "The Wiz" (Evillene); "The King & I" (Anna); "City of Angels" (Alaura Kingsley/Carla Haywood); "Oliver" (Widow Corney); "Fiddler on the Roof" (the Fiddler).  Opera credits include: "Un ballo in maschera" (Ulrica); "Otello" (Emilia); "Il tabarro" (La Frugola); "La belle Helene" (Loena).

Roxie Maisel's "A Very Roxie Christmas" is my first ever studio album, fully self-produced, including eight entirely original holiday songs.  It's weird, hilarious, festive, and at times, touching. When I began making this album, I wasn't quite sure how I felt about the holiday.  I was raised Jewish, so I always felt excluded and a little suspicious.  What I discovered in the process of creating these songs is that I actually like Christmas a lot! My connection to ICSA is that I was in an acting class that turned out to be an abusive cult.  The teacher, a close family friend, was very cruel and made me doubt myself as a performer.  I was in her "class" for one year, and it did major damage to my self-esteem. This album was a reclaiming of my creativity and sense of humor.  Her class had transformed me from a carefree comedian to a "serious" actor, so it felt really good to make something silly and unserious!
